The top 9 FAQs
1. What exactly is mental performance coaching and what can you help me with?
Mental performance coaching is the practice of developing the mental skills that directly impact how you think, compete, and perform. It is forward focused and goal-oriented we are not always unpacking the past, we are building toward something specific.
The areas I work in include but are not limited to: visualization and imagery, breathing and arousal control, focus and attention management, performance routines, self-talk and internal dialogue, confidence building, adversity and mistake response, goal setting, leadership development, team cohesion, decision fatigue, flow state, return-to-play mindset after injury, and managing performance anxiety. If you have something specific in mind that is not on this list, reach out and we can talk through whether it falls within my scope of practice.
2. Who do you work with?
Athletes of all sports, ages, gender, and skill levels from youth competitors just getting started to collegiate and professional athletes navigating high-level demands. But my work extends well beyond sport. I regularly work with coaches, parents of athletes, healthcare professionals, business professionals, military and first responders, performers, and anyone else who faces pressure and wants to handle it better. If you perform in any environment where your mental state affects your output, there is something here for you.
3. I am not in New Mexico, can we still work together?
Absolutely. The majority of my clients are remote. Sessions are conducted by phone or Google Meet and work just as well online as in person. I have worked with clients across the country and the process translates completely to a virtual format. In-person sessions are available for those local to the Albuquerque area.
4. How often should we meet and how long does it take to see results?
This depends on your goals, your schedule, and where you are starting from. Most clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions and adjust from there. What I will say is that mental performance training follows the same logic as physical training; one session will not change anything. Consistency over time is what builds the skill. Clients who commit to a regular schedule and actively practice between sessions see results significantly faster than those who treat it as an occasional check-in. Most people notice meaningful shifts within four to six sessions. Deeper, lasting change typically develops over two to four months of consistent work.
5. What happens in the first full session?
The first session is an assessment and orientation. We spend the time getting to know each other, mapping out where you are mentally right now, what is already working in your favor, where the gaps are, and establishing clear goals for what we are working toward. You will leave the first session with a clear picture of your current mental performance profile and at least one concrete skill or practice to begin working on immediately.
6. Is everything we talk about confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in our sessions stays between us. I will not share your information with anyone except to parents if you are under the age of 18. For minor clients, parents are kept informed of general progress but detailed session content remains confidential. Outside of that situation, parents, coaches, and all others will not know what we discuss without your explicit consent. The only exceptions are situations where I am legally obligated to act, such as if there is a credible risk of harm to you or someone else. Full details are outlined in the Terms and Conditions you agree to at the time of booking.
7. How do packages work and what happens if I need to cancel?
Packages are purchased upfront and give you a set number of sessions to use across an agreed timeframe. All sessions must be used within 12 months of purchase. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, 24 hours notice is required. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice may result in that session being forfeited, though usually I am flexible and will give you an access code to reschedule. If you decide to discontinue a package before completing all sessions, a refund is available for unused sessions at the package per-session rate minus a $50 administrative fee. Full details are in the Terms and Conditions.
8. I am not sure mental training is for me…how do I know if it is worth it?
Ask yourself this: is there any gap between how you perform when everything feels right versus how you perform when the pressure is on, when you are struggling, or when things are not going your way? If the answer is yes (and for almost everyone it is), that gap is mental. Physical and technical training address what your body can do. Mental performance training addresses whether you can actually access that ability when it counts. The skills built through this work do not expire and they carry over into every area of your life, not just your sport or profession. The investment is in yourself, and it compounds over time.
9. How do I get started?
Every new client relationship begins with a free 15-minute discovery call. It is a no pressure conversation where we get to know each other, talk through what you are working on, and figure out whether we are a good fit. From there we decide together which package or session format makes the most sense for your goals. You can book that call directly through the scheduling page, no commitment required.
